Since Bird Dog Bay’s founding in 2006, whenever Steve puts pen to paper, you can rest assured a set of irons or a golf ball will find its way onto one of our silk neckties or bow ties. Between fans of the game and our presence in the pro shops of some of the finest clubs in America, fans of Bird Dog Bay and fans of golf are often one and the same.

With a new collection every season, golf themes always feature prominently. Some designs are only present for a season or two while others, like “Hazard on Eight,” are as timeless as Arnold Palmer. Originally drawn by Steve around 2008 before making its way into our collection a few seasons later, “Hazard on Eight” is one of Steve’s personal favorites and is adored by folks far and wide.

Featuring a gator with his tail around the #8 flag and a golf ball in his mouth, “Hazard on Eight” is a terrific step and repeat pattern that truly embodies the sophisticated whimsy for which we’re known. From a distance, the necktie or bow tie merely resembles a geometric; upon closer inspection, the cheeky pattern is clear for all to see. While available in a few colors prior to this collection, this season’s edition of “Hazard on Eight” is available in cora l, navy, and violet, perfect for your navy blazer and a cold drink after eighteen. Handcrafted in New Orleans, we are proud to feature dozens of styles sure to bring your wardrobe to the next level this season. From casual choices like our surcingle and Italian woven options to more refined options such as our burnished Italian calfskin, we’re happy to make our way into your wardrobe for those days where a tie might not be needed. 

All belts feature Italian calf tab ends and a polished brass buckle. Each belt measures 35mm at its width; for an ideal fit, order one size larger than your waist (e.g. a 34″ waist wear a 36″ belt).

Our 12 Gauge sock and boxer gift sets are the perfect gift for any occasion this summer! While Steve is best known for his whimsical illustrations, he is  continuously asked to create more traditional patterns. Even with this more conservative look, Steve relishes these opportunities to design, and his creations include a circular pattern inspired by magician’s rings, a stellar geometric pattern, and a colorful floral pattern that has evolved into “Flower Power”. Originally, inspired by Steve’s overgrown front garden, the first offering was named “Daisy Days”. At this time, his neighbor was growing hops in his front garden and went on to co-found our favorite Chicago mirco-brewery whose best-selling beer also has daisy in it’s name. But that is the beginning of the story behind “Hoppy Hour”, which we’ll save for another time. Nevertheless, “Flower Power” has grown into one of our top “traditional” ties and best sellers for spring and summer wedding parties. “Vintage Tapestry” came about more recently, with more and more of our customers asking for something that could be worn that doesn’t raise eyebrows but does raise interest. 

Drawing inspiration from his Grandpa’s collection of wide, colorful designs from the late 60’s as well as his collection of old Persian style rugs, Steve came us with this gem. It’s bold, fluid look lends itself to the funkier side, while transitioning seamlessly from the office to the cocktail party. Now in his 10th year of designs, Steve’s drawn hundreds of different illustrations and patterns, from dogs to Datsuns, diagonals to dodo birds. So dig in, there’s something for everyone! An interesting part of working at Bird Dog Bay is seeing what designs are the best liked every season. We all have our predictions at the beginning of each collection, but we are continually surprised as to what all of you find most popular. One thing we noticed early on is the more whimsical, unconventional designs do quite well. Steve had this in mind years ago, when he initially drew his first mermaid tie “Mermaid Mixer” (or maybe he just grew up in the 80’s and fell in love with Daryl Hannah in the movie “Splash”). After it sold out, Steve kept getting asked if the mermaid would ever make a return. Celebrating our 10th year in business, Steve saw a great opportunity to bring it back into the collection, and worked on improving the mermaid design and incorporating it into different goods. This nautical beauty was woven strikingly into socks, embroidered into one of our favorite linen pocket squares (or hankies) and most recently made an appearance on our first ever Pedigree line of English Woven neck and bow ties.
